Leslie Murphy

Owner & Creative Director
Murphy Maude Interiors

Originally from Alabama, Leslie moved to New York in her early career. After working for Columbia University, living near the Chelsea art district, and traveling to cultural centers around the world, life brought her to Memphis in 2009.  After much soul searching she decided to leave the world of academic fundraising to pursue her background in Art and her passion for design. In 2013 she launched Design Art, LLC which is now known as Murphy Maude Interiors, a full service residential design firm primarily serving Memphis, Nashville and Atlanta.

While at Auburn University (BA) and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (MA), Leslie studied Public Relations,  Art and Education. She is self-taught in the field of interior design.

Leslie believes a well-designed space can change emotions and evoke feelings of calmness, happiness and thoughtfulness, ultimately changing the state of mind and improving a person’s quality of life. She also believes the power of good design should not be limited to the very rich or very few.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Caroline attended Mississippi State University where she received a BS in Biological Sciences. She moved to Memphis in 2015 and has been with Murphy Maude Interiors for 4 years. While being both self-taught and mentored in this field by Leslie, design and art have always been a creative outlet for her from a young age. While attending college, she met her husband Brock, and they have a 3 year old pup, Beckett who, next to her work, populates her Instagram page frequently.

Caroline loves to recharge in nature and get the creative juices flowing which inspires her design aesthetic. She loves anything with natural textures and organic movement. This influences her style by incorporating materials with an organic feel in warm, earthy tones and neutrals to achieve calming and ground interiors.

Caroline thinks that by focusing on good quality core pieces and less expensive accents, you can create a unique and wonderful space without breaking the bank. One of her loves is unexpected art pieces. Taking something unique and special and framing it on your wall is a great conversation starter.

Originally from Tupelo, Mississippi, Laurie Conway studied Interior Design at Mississippi State University. For the past 25 years, she has worked as an interior designer both for herself and for other designers in the Jackson and Memphis area. Laurie is the mother of two incredible children, Ben and Julia and she has always loved to design and create things. “As long as I’m creating, I am happy!” she says in reference to working in client’s homes.

After working at an architectural firm early in her design career, Laurie quickly realized her love for residential design and practiced as an interior designer in the Jackson are for over 20 years. Not only is she an extremely talented designer, but she is skilled at designing window treatments and bedding, space planning, renovations, faux finishing, painting custom artwork, and selecting fabrics. She truly shines at creating!

In 2017, Laurie moved to Memphis to expand her creative journey and was looking to find a place that would help her use her full range of design talents. She and Leslie crossed paths in 2019 — and after their first project together, Leslie knew that she wanted Laurie to be a part of the MMI team.

Immediately after meeting Leslie, Laurie joined the MMI team as a residential Interior designer — and what a blessing it was! We could not be more thrilled by the work she is doing here!
