We recently did a fun project for a 21 year girl who’s bubbly, loves pink, and bright colors. We were looking to kick things up a notch without breaking the bank, while keeping things fun and functional.
In the kitchen area we used framed wallpaper samples for cost efficient art. We created a cute sitting area for cocktails and chats with friends by recovering chairs we had in stock with fun pink fabric. We changed out the paint plan to white walls and black windows to create a more modern feel, and swapped to an updated pendant light in kitchen and hallway.
The dining room was my absolute FAVORITE part of the project! We created an exciting accent wall using wallpaper by Charlotte, North Carolina artist, Windy O’Connor. The design is called “Chica Ladies” and it’s grasscloth wallpaper, each face is a reproduction of an original piece of art from Windy’s collection. We added a new light fixture and created custom reverse pleat curtains. We saved money by using the table and chairs she already had and updating them to a high gloss black finish. We recovered the chairs in a funky pink velvet. For a low-maintenance table centerpiece, we used these unique glass mirror balls, instead of fresh flowers which are hard for a busy young girl to care for. To bring it all together we chose a colorful rug that we felt was a perfect fit for the room.
The dining room and living room were joined so we were careful to make them flow together well. Our client wanted to keep her existing sofa, so we added semi-custom pillows to give it a little more “oomph”! We used edgy prints to pull in the pinks from the dining room, as well as another gorgeous rug. We finished off the room with a new midcentury modern flush mount light fixture to accommodate the lower ceiling heights.
Our client also wanted a “doggy room” that would double as a make-up room. We added a desk perfect for primping, curtains from Bed Bath and Beyond to stay thoughtful about the budget in this ancillary area, and ordered the blue chaise from a ready made online retailer. The adorable artwork of the pups was custom ordered, and we finished the room off with semi- custom pillows.
Installs take a lot more work than one would imagine— we go the extra mile taking off tags, putting bulbs in lamps, cleaning fingerprints off of mirrors, and SO much more. We worked around the clock to make sure our client was thrilled when she returned from travel. It was important to us that she come home to her newly designed space feeling excited about her new home and new decor!!
